Modern Warfare 3 fans are hoping the single-player campaign gives them the very first look at Ghost's face.
The launch of Modern Warfare 3 is on the horizon and with all eyes on the campaign early access window opening, fans are looking forward to the latest battle between Task Force 141 and the Konni Group led by an iconic villain.
One member of the elite task force has always captured the imagination of players. Since arriving in 2009's Modern Warfare 2, the identity of Ghost has remained a mystery thanks to the mask he wears in the vast majority of cutscenes. Now, fans are wanting a glimpse of the enigmatic soldier named Simon Riley.
As players prepare to load into the sixth Modern Warfare title, user Khai115_2 took to Reddit wondering if Sledgehammer Games will reveal the face of Ghost after years of wearing the now iconic mask.
On one hand, finally seeing the man behind the mask could act as a potentially excellent ending to the trilogy but on the other, there are many that would prefer Ghost's face to remain a mystery. One fan says: "Him wearing the mask and being a mystery is part of his character so probably not."
While players may never see the true identity of Ghost, the character has removed his mask before. Towards the end of 2022's Modern Warfare 2 campaign, Ghost replaces his mask with a balaclava, but that was it.
The idea of Ghost removing his mask is an exciting one even though it may never happen during any Call of Duty campaign. Shedding light on the man who's had to conceal his true identity for years could act as an avenue for a future storyline but for now, it looks like fans and the developers want the character to keep the mask on for the foreseeable future.
Of course, there's always a chance of a major plot twist during the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, so we'll have to wait and see what Sledgehammer Games has in store.
