Xbox Series fans who want more space are in for some great news. Microsoft has announced that Series S and X consoles will now support storage of USB drives that are over 16TB. It’s a great announcement for Xbox fans and something that Sony could listen to for it PlayStation 5.
The official Xbox blog announced that formatted drives of 16TB and over can be used to store more games, apps, and more. Considering how much space modern games can take up, this is very good news for Series S and X fans. It’s also worth noting that Microsoft is prioritizing digital consoles, so seeing them add more options for storage is always a good thing.
Microsoft is also a big supporter of backwards-compatibility, so Xbox Series fans who are still going over their Xbox One and 360 games have more space to do that. Granted, this might be bad for those who are trying to get through their backlog, but that’s not what gaming is about. Don’t get us wrong, you should absolutely clean up your backlog, but more games is always cool.
Because Microsoft are seen as “third place” when compared to Sony and Nintendo, especially with the Switch 2 recently announced, doing consumer-friendly things like this is good. While it won’t convince Switch and PS5 fans to jump over, those considering getting an Xbox might do so. Plus, this means more space to play those Call of Duty games, which always take up plenty of space.
That’s everything we know about storage expansion for the Xbox Series systems. For more Xbox-adjacent news, check out the recently leaked Doom: The Dark Times release date.
