Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 fans aren't keen on the idea of developer Sledgehammer Games adding futuristic weaponry into the game. Following the developer’s history of futuristic guns and equipment, fans are wholly against their inclusion in the latest CoD title.

The thought of running around maps with a weapon that fires a laser beam isn't the first thing that pops into the minds of players when they're discussing Modern Warfare 3. However, it's a topic of conversation that's caught the attention of many turning their attention to the latest instalment of the Call of Duty franchise.

Futuristic weaponry appearing in multiplayer isn't a new occurrence after Advanced Warfare's EM1 rifle managed to make its way into Vanguard set in World War 2 after any semblance of realism disappeared into thin air during its final season.

In a bid to prevent Modern Warfare 3 and its extensive selection of guns and weapons from heading in a similar direction, user MikeJon45 took to Reddit to share their concerns.

The player says: "Do not transform that game (Modern Warfare 3) into a goofy shooter like you started to do with the last season of Vanguard. And remove the goofy laser sights. They just look stupid and out of place."

Unfortunately, it's bad news for MikeJon45 and others who hope Modern Warfare 3 sticks to its modern-day aesthetic. If recent leaks are to be believed, the EM1 is potentially returning as part of a seasonal update themed around Advanced Warfare.

As with all leaks, take them with a pinch of salt. There's a strong possibility Sledgehammer Games will change what's arriving in Season 3, especially when information on Season 1 hasn't appeared yet.

Despite the opposition to futuristic additions that could join the gun list, there are some who believe they could add even more fun to what's already on offer. One player thinks: "CoD is a goofy game and if these guns make the game fun, then I'm all for it."

It's safe to say Call of Duty has never aimed for realism but as an arcade shooter, that's the last thing players want. If futuristic weaponry enhances the fast-paced action, then there's a chance many are looking forward to laser beams making their way back to multiplayer.
