In Fae Farm, getting to grips with your tools is important. Whether you're upgrading your net to catch stronger critters or rushing through the story to upgrade your wand, each new level matters. Iron tools each have a special ability, and in this guide, we'll teach you how to activate the iron pickaxe special ability in Fae Farm.
The jump from copper to iron is a special occasion, and will help you get further in the Saltwater Mines. Skills like mining and logging will level up over time, but it's still important to upgrade tools so they can get late-game resources.

How to use the iron pickaxe ability in Fae Farm
After you've gotten enough ore to make ingots and reached the Iron age with the help of Cinder, you should return to the Saltwater Mine. Unlike the game's spells that can be activated at any time, a tool's special ability can only be used when you're near something it's typically used on.
In this case, the pickaxe is typically used on rocks. To use the ability, press and hold 'F' (or 'Y' if you're on Switch.) while near something the pickaxe can break. This will create a three-by-three square in the area above the player. After a few seconds, you'll strike the ground and break or heavily damage anything in the area.

This can be useful if you're in a hurry or just don't want to go through the tedious process of breaking several rocks individually. As you upgrade your pickaxe more, the power of the smash will increase until even the hardest ore is no match for you.
It's worth noting that the ability isn't unlimited; the blue bar in the top left represents how many times the ability can be used. You can restore some with potions, and it'll be fully restored at the beginning of each day. Cosy furniture with a blue symbol will increase the bar's maximum level, too.
