How to open Grasswither Shrine in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
There are four different Shrines in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet hidden in different corners of the Paldea region and securely locked.
You can have the academy's history teacher mark their locations on your map by entering the correct history answers throughout the classes and exams, but it's only for the sake of convenience: you don't need to do this to find and open the shrines.
Whether you've completed the classes or not, you can seek out the eight Purple Stake locations scattered around the shrine's adjacent areas. Interacting with each will slowly break down the chains keeping the legendary Pokemon of Grasswither Shrine securely locked away.
Once you've pulled them all from the ground, you'll have a chance to fight and catch it.
To help in that mission, you can easily find all eight Purple Stakes by following along with our step-by-step guide below.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Purple Stake Locations
Well, during your journey, you must have found at least one or several strange Stakes of different colors stuck in the ground. There are a total of 32 Stakes you can find, 8 of each color. And each set of 8 Stakes is the key to unlocking one of the four Shrines.
So, as we said, for the Grasswither Shrine, you have to find and pull the Purple Stakes out of the ground. It is a task for which you will spend quite a lot of time. Therefore, to make your life easier below, you can check the locations of each of the eight Purple Stakes.
First Purple Stake
The first Purple Stake is quite easy to find. It is very close to the Grasswither Shrine. Just climb the rock and go a little to the north.
Second Purple Stake
The next Purple Stake is far northeast of the first location near Artazon. You can fly to one of the Pokémon Centers in the city. Then go up the hill to the west of Artazon and pull the Stake out of the ground.
Third Purple Stake
To get to this Purple Stake, you must head northwest towards The Great Crater of Paldea. The location you need is between South Province (Area Three) and East Province (Area One). On top of one of the rock formations, you can find the third Purple Stake.
Fourth Purple Stake
This Purple Stake is located southwest of the previous location. You can fly to the Pokémon Center in the east part of Mesagoza and go a little further east to save time. On top of one of the pillar-shaped stone formations, you'll find the Stake you need.
Fifth Purple Stake
The fifth Purple Stake is located not far from the fourth. Move further southwest to the river separating Mesagoza and South Province (Area One). Jump onto one of the ledges next to the bridge, and you'll find a Stake.
Sixth Purple Stake
To find the sixth Purple Stake, you must head south to South Province (Area Five). Your destination is the top of a very large plateau. It is a rounded plateau, so you can easily find it on the map.
Seventh Purple Stake
This Purple Stake is located between the previous location and Los Platos. Go south from Mesagoza to reach it if you've done things in a different order. Explore the tops of the plateau in this location and you'll find the penultimate Purple Stake.
Eighth Purple Stake
Finally, you can find the eighth Purple Stake by walking a few steps. Go south from Los Platos and you should spot a high rock with a semicircle shape. Climb on the top and pull out the last Purple Stake.
How to find Grasswither Shrine in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Once you've pulled all eight Purple Stakes out of the ground, you'll hear a mysterious cry, which is the signal that the Grasswither Shrine is open.
Grasswither Shrine is located in South Province (Area One), on the southeast of the Paldea region. Unfortunately, there are no places near the Shrine where you can fly to shorten the path. To get there conveniently, move southwest from the Pokémon Center between South Province (Area One) and South Province (Area Five).
Once you've been near Grasswither Shrine, you can fast-travel there at any time.
How to get Wo-Chien in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Once you've found all of the Purple Stakes, simply fly to the Grasswither Shrine and interact with it to encounter Wo-Chien. This Legendary Dark and Grass-type Pokémon is level 60, so you will need to prepare before trying to catch it.
Try your luck with a Quick Ball at the start, then opt for Dusk Balls before switching to Timer Balls after around turn seven to maximize your chances of success. It's a powerful Pokemon. The longer you spend trying to catch it, the more you risk wiping out.
To whittle it down, we recommend using Poison, Ice, Flying, Bug, Fighting, Fire, and Fairy-type Pokemon to hit its weaknesses. Try to bring False Swipe into play and then apply a non-volatile status condition with moves like Spore, Thunder Wave, Glare, Yawn, or Sleep Powder. Nuzzle at the start of the fight can work wonders.
