Need to know how to get coal in Stardew Valley? You've likely already found some, and probably in a few different places and via few different methods. But they're not exhaustive. Being a very basic resource, coal can be gathered and procured in a number of different ways.
Down below, we'll do just that: drum up all the different methods for gathering coal in Stardew Valley. It's used up quickly when smelting the finer ores you'll find on your travels, so it makes sense to have a steady supply coming in.

How to get coal in Stardew Valley
Here are all the places you can expect to find coal in Stardew Valley:
Mines
Any mined rock has the chance to drop coal. The odds can be altered via Luck or level increases.
Minecarts found along tracks can also contain coal. Miner's Bags will always contain around half a dozen coal, too.
On later floors of the mine, Dust Sprites have a high chance to drop coal and slimes of any colour have a low chance to drop it. Late-floor monsters like Golems, Brutes, Shamans, and Metal Heads have a similarly low chance to drop coal.
Overworld
Outside of the mines, breaking rocks can still yield coal. Digging up artifact spots can work, trading in geodes can produce coal, and you can find it by panning in water, unlocked through the Fish Tank Bundle or via the Community Development Form.
For large amounts of coal, a passing train in the north area can be a great source. Any fruit trees struck by lighting will produce coal for a few days thereafter.
Crafting
Tossing 10 wood into a Charcoal Kiln will produce one coal.
Shops
You can buy coal from the Blacksmith. On the odd occasion, the Traveling Cart will offer it at a random price.
