A full remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics has been teased by the games industry’s most accurate journalist: Jason Schrierier.
Following new leaks of a Final Fantasy 9 remake, Square Enix is also reportedly working on a modern remaster of the classic Tactics spin-off for modern hardware.
In a post on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, games journalist Jason Schreier confirmed the remaster’s existence. In a post discussing reveals from a controversial leaker named Midori, Schreier claimed their previous statements about Final Fantasy Tactics’ return were accurate.
“The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is real and happening,” the journalist said.
As one of the most renowned games journalists, Jason Schreier is the most accurate source for games industry leaks and scoops. The Bloomberg journalist previously leaked Naughty Dog’s Last of Us Part 1 remake, an upcoming expanded version of Hogwarts Legacy and detailed the troubled development behind Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.
It’s worth noting that the return of Final Fantasy Tactics isn’t a full-on remake of the game with modern visuals. Instead, the title has been leaked as a simple remaster that will likely increase the game’s resolution and make it playable on systems such as the PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.
Alongside this remaster, Square Enix is also working on multiple other entries in the Final Fantasy series. The third and final entry of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is currently in early development, and Final Fantasy 17 is also planned.
Following a change in direction at Square Enix, the Japanese gaming giant is slowing down on the number of new releases to focus on quality titles. However, with its large backlog of critically acclaimed games in the Final Fantasy series, we could see a heavy number of remasters in the coming years.
