Fans don’t know what to expect with the third Final Fantasy VII Remake installment, but the devs are promising to outdo the original game’s ending. That is a very ambitious statement since the original title resonates with people to this day, though one could argue that this whole trilogy is ambitious.

Motomu Toriyama, the co-director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, promised fans in the Indonesia Anime Con (via Nagia on Twitter) that the third game in this trilogy would have a more satisfying ending than the original. Obviously, Toriyama didn’t say how this ending would be more satisfying, but the co-director also promised fans that any questions they might have will be answered in this installment.

The original game’s ending is uplifting and vague, as it doesn’t really show what happens to Cloud and his friends after they beat Sephiroth, with the exception of Red XIII. It essentially tells fans that the planet will be okay, which was always the moral of this game’s story.

Based on Toriyama’s comments, it seems that the third Final Fantasy VII Remake game will give us more details on the fates of Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, and everyone else. Admittedly, the Advent Children movie did reveal that everyone was fine, but since this game is in its own weird continuity bubble, we wouldn’t mind something different.

Possible endings aside, Toriyama has also said that he wants to add even more exploration to the third game. Considering how massive Rebirth is, literally giving fans hours of content to go through, adding more might feel like overkill. Then again, considering the positive fan reaction to Rebirth, we’re sure most players won’t mind an even bigger world to explore.

Expectations are high for the third Final Fantasy VII Remake game, especially since the first two games were loved by most players. No release date for the next installment was revealed, though we imagine it will come out in four or so years. In the meantime, fans can pick up Remake and Rebirth to complete everything.
