Now that it’s finally emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to scythe through its quests and battles.
Streamers have already shown off some of the fun the full version of the game has to offer, and its modding scene is already producing plenty of interesting tweaks and enhancements, including the option to play as an ex-goat.
While many players have recently been clamouring for Larian to add a simple feature to the game that can help out folks who’ve made some choices they now regret, the studio's founder has already shed some light on what a possible expansion for it could entail.
Are you hoping that Baldur’s Gate 3 will get a top-notch expansion at some point down the line?
Speaking to PC Gamer, Swen Vincke has revealed that, as of right now, the studio hasn’t begun working on any DLC for the game. That said, the Director seemingly didn’t completely rule out the idea of such a thing being produced at some point down the line.
As to why this is the case, Vincke pointed to the difficulty that could be involved in putting together an expansion aimed at players who’ve already played through some, if not all, of what the base game has to offer, due to the Dungeons and Dragons-style nature of its levelling system.
In the interview, the developer pointed out that the design process for any adventures aimed at taking players from the base game’s level cap of 12 up to level 20, which is the typical cutoff point in Dungeons and Dragons, would require a lot of extra work to compensate for the powerful abilities on offer at high levels.
Vincke also cited the multiple endings on offer in the game’s main story as another potential complicating factor alongside those balancing issues, before suggesting that the announcement of any potential expansion would only come once the studio was prepared to put its seal of approval on it.
So, even if one does end up happening, don’t get your hopes up for an early announcement that’ll give you plenty of time to put together a huge list of things you’ve decided you’ll be disappointed if the expansion doesn’t include.
