Though lots of RPG fans currently have their sights firmly set on the release of Starfield in September, plenty will likely be giving the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3 a go in the coming days.

A legion of loyal PC players, many of whom have been playing the early access version of the game since 2020, have already jumped into it to begin scything through quests and battles.

While streamers have already shown some of the fun the vanilla version of the game has to offer, some players are starting to dip into the mods for it that are already beginning to pop up. One of the few works to hit the Nexus so far looks like it definitely has the potential to spice up your playthrough.

Looking for a way to inject some added zaniness into your first Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough?

The mod in question is called ‘Was A Goat for 10 Years’, and is the work of modder FPOD, who also goes by the handle NellsRelo.

Some of their previous projects brought gnomes, Duergar dwarves, and even skeletons to the early access version of the game as playable races, all the way back in 2020.

Now that the full version of it has been arrived, they’ve immediately released a new version of another of their early access works to make it compatible with the latest release. The mod in question adds a new custom background to the game, which allows you to roleplay as a character who used to be a goat.

Yes, you read that last part right.

“For whatever reason, you have spent the last 10 years of your life as a goat,” reads the description of the mod, the idea for which originally came from a 2018 Reddit post, continuing: “For better or for worse, mysterious circumstances have rendered you back to your original race.”

It also rather helpfully outlines the benefits this rather interesting backstory can offer your character, revealing:

“Having been a goat for so long, you know your way around animals, and have become quite athletic, granting you proficiency in Animal Handling and Athletics. You also gain Surefooted, granting you immunity to muddy and difficult terrain. Your irises are rectangular, granting you a small amount of Darkvision (6 metres), and you've taken a liking to bushy beards.”

In order to take on this remarkable form, which will no doubt facilitate some hilarious roleplaying, you’ll want to grab the Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager, which should help make the install process a bit easier.
