For some background on The Blade of Frontiers quest, Wyll's goal is to hunt and kill Karlach, a devil that has arrived in Faerun. Upon recruiting Wyll, a marker will appear on your map which hints at Karlach's location.

To access the west area of Druid's Grove, simply cross the stone bridge and proceed north of the river. Once you've done that, head directly east towards the marked area on your map.

Once you see Karlach, interact with her. She won't immediately be hostile and you'll find out of her true nature. Additionally, you can speak with Wyll to discuss his feelings about killing Karlach. Afterwards, you can then start a long rest to trigger the decision.

You'll then get the decision to either let Wyll kill Karlach or protect Karlach. We've broken down below what happens with each decision.

Choose the Infernal Robe

If you choose the Infernal Robe, Wyll kills Karlach then Mizora will give you the Infernal Robe. Take note that this robe provides 50% resistance to fire damage. You'll be able to cast the Fire Shield: Warm which provides resistance against cold-related damage.

Moreover, this piece of gear has an armour class of 11 and deals 2 to 16 fire damage to anyone who hits you with melee attacks. This seems like a good choice because of the major effects the Infernal Robe holds.

If you decide to see how Karlach is trying to start a new life away from the devils, you can recruit her into your party. Despite this option though, Mizora, Wyll's patron, will still appear, however, you can say that she "wont leave alive" which gets approval from companions such as Astarion, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, and Karlach.

Mizora will then reprimand Wyll for disobeying her. She then punishes Wyll by turning him into a devil with a large pair of horns and then leaves, reminding Wyll that he won't be free yet.

Which choice is best?

While the Infernal Robe seems like a good item to have, it may not be worth the risk of disapproval from your party members. Having Karlach on your side is highly beneficial for you as she's a great tanker and melee fighter on the battlefield. Additionally, you may even find more good armour along the story as you play.

Overall though, it's still your decision whether to kill or protect Karlach. Just make sure you make the choice you won't regret later on.
