Breakdown
- The official Black Ops 6 logo has been revealed
- USA Today newspapers came with an insert containing the new logo
- Treyarch is officially returning to numbered entries after the underwhelming Black Ops Cold War
The first look at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 logo has been revealed. Following the game’s intriguing teaser trailer on May 23rd, fans have discovered the logo in the wild.
Users on the Call of Duty subreddit found the logo in new issues of the USA Today newspaper. The inserts included stories about the new marketing series’ fictional Mount Rushmore vandalism. Next to the story, a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 logo is visible.
Without any official word from Activision or Treyarch, this is the first confirmation of the Black Ops 6 naming scheme. Previous leaks referred to the title as Black Ops Gulf War, following the same title structure as 2020’s Black Ops Cold War.
However, Treyarch is reverting to a numbered entry format. Instead of using Roman numerals as expected, titling the game Black Ops VI or even Black Ops IIIIII, Treyarch is calling the game Black Ops 6.
The game appears to focus on the Gulf War conflict of the 1990s. The ongoing ARG marketing stunt uses CRT televisions and other 90s aesthetics with a very anti-US approach. Given the controversy surrounding the US involvement in the real-life conflict, and its nickname as the “video game war,” representing this 30-year-old conflict through a modern lens makes sense.
Black Ops 6 will likely follow the same structure as Cold War’s return to Vietnam. This suggests the Gulf War conflict will serve as a backdrop or an inciting incident to kickstart an original, fictional battle with new characters.
Fans have reacted positively to the leaked Black Ops 6 logo and the creepy marketing created for the upcoming game.
“They’re really going hard on the political satire this time,” said Reddit user Averagezoomers. “Treyarch’s always been more critical of the US but this is a new level. I’m here for it.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is already shaping up to be one of the most interesting CoD games in years. While the recent Modern Warfare series has produced some fantastic games, it’s been a while since we’ve had the sheer excitement of Black Ops’ narrative and conspiracy in a mainline game.
Black Ops 6 will be officially revealed on June 9, 2024, at the end of the Xbox Games Showcase.
