The Call of Duty franchise contains a huge variety of weaponry. Ranging from the M4 to the Intervention, there are a few guns that have managed to become hallmarks of Activision's shooter series, thanks to their immense popularity among players.

With all eyes moving towards the launch of Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games continues to share information on what the game has in store. So far, its planned health changes have divided player opinion, while many are looking forward to playing Open Combat Missions in the campaign.

The latest revelation surrounding the game involves the return of an iconic assault rifle, which dominated the meta during 2009's Modern Warfare 2 cycle.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 to feature ACR

Following several official teasers revealing information on various multiplayer features in the game, Call of Duty content creator ModernWarzone has spotted the ACR assault rifle in it, being wielded a player utilising the Tac Stance mechanic.

As expected, players have been quick to share their excitement about the gun, with one saying: "(This is) the best news by far." Another declared: "If it sounds like it did in the original Modern Warfare 2, I'm gonna have a meltdown."

The ACR that featured in previous Modern Warfare games boasted extremely low levels of recoil, in addition to a fast rate of fire capable of excelling in mid-range combat.

Although the promo image shows the ACR in action, there's a possibility of the rifle going by a different name in the game. 2022's Modern Warfare 2 saw Infinity Ward move away from using real-world names for weapons included in the arsenal and if that trend continues, the ACR might end up being dubbed something else.

However, it certainly looks like Sledgehammer Games plans on including a weapon with the same look and potentially the same characteristics as the iconic weapon in Modern Warfare 3.

With the game's map list containing all 16 launch maps from 2009's Call of Duty and now the inclusion of the ACR, Modern Warfare 3 players should definitely be preparing to take a trip down memory lane.
