While you may associate the appearance of zombies with horror games, the undead are no strangers to the Call of Duty franchise. While Activision's shooter series often focuses on multiplayer and the campaign, in Modern Warfare 3, zombies are returning once again.

After a teaser offered a first look at the zombies mode, attention is turning towards the start of the beta, which will enable players to dive into a small slice of the game ahead of its full release.

Following the launch of the first cinematic trailer for MW3 zombies, players are looking forward to seeing what the next chapter of the Dark Aether storyline has in store.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 zombies trailer excites fans

The four-minute trailer introduces players to the first zombie mode to release as part of a Modern Warfare title. After witnessing how the undead make a return, players were quick to share their thoughts.

One player says: "(Zombies) looks incredible!" Another adds: "Such a sick cinematic. Would be awesome if there was an entire CoD movie done like this."

While there are many looking forward to seeing where the storyline is heading, others took the chance to voice concerns about a lack of map variety in the game. "The cinematic was cool, until I remembered that I am just gonna be playing the Warzone map over and over," said one.

The trailer also shows Viktor Zakhaev leading the armed forces in their quest to find the vials. Zakhaev was last seen falling down a missile silo during a cutscene, leaving plenty of questions as to how he survived the fall.

Instead of surviving endless rounds, the MW3 zombies mode sees players join squads and work with other teams to survive, before attempting to extract from the action.

With players looking forward to seeing what Treyarch has in store, the next teasers could appear as part of the Warzone Halloween event that's currently rumoured to be taking place during Season 6.
