Being chased by the fuzz is a near-constant in GTA Online, with Los Santos millionaires regularly being forced to dig into their wallets in order to get the boys in blue to stop disturbing their illegal practices and poorer players simply having to fight back as best they can.
Despite this and the fact that any increase in police presence would make any battles between griefers and the griefed or random wars between costumed crusaders even more hectic than they already are, it seems that many GTA players would like to be able to take on a cop’s badge and gun.
Indeed, some of these would-be lawmen have recently gathered on Reddit to discuss what happened to a rumoured GTA DLC from a few years ago that might have fulfilled their dream.
GTA Players Want to Play Cops and Robbers
This thread in the GTA Online subreddit, began with user El_hafo sharing a supposed promo image for the ‘Cops ‘n Crooks’ DLC, which many players believe to have been scrapped by Rockstar following the George Floyd protests in the US, captioning it: “so.. this is never gonna see the light?
A number of users were quick to outline their desire for a similar addition to GTA Online at some point, with user Appropriate-Kick9071 saying: “Shame tbh because it'd be cool to store police cars or own a police station” and Meganinja1886 adding: “Can I at least just buy cop cars and customize them?”
Other players discussed the alleged story behind the police-based DLC they think they were due to receive in 2020, with debates raging as to whether the GTA player base would have been able to handle such an update with maturity given the events that were happening in the world at the time.
Meanwhile, some users couldn’t recall hearing anything about the supposed update at the time, questioning whether it was just wishful thinking from fans, with David1258 musing: “I can barely see anything about it online, which makes me convinced that this thread exists in a pocket universe where this update was announced, and that Rockstar never planned this in the real world, and we're the only people aware of its existence.”
Amidst this chaos, a few players discussed the pros and cons of GTA IV’s Cops ‘n Crooks game mode, which was just a simple team deathmatch style activity, with one team having to reach a getaway vehicle before the other took them out.
If a cop-centric update for GTA Online ever does arrive, players will expect it to be much more in-depth than this, with user MR_DELORIAN adding to the wishlist the ability to identify as a cop or robber in free roam rather than just during missions.
Regardless of whether you think a cop-based DLC would be good for GTA Online, make sure to follow us for more updates as new content, possibly starring Michael from single-player, is released.
