While Cyberpunk 2077 endured a bit of a rocky start to life, it now has a pretty dedicated hardcore fanbase, with some having stuck it out in Night City since 2020 and others having gotten into the game since the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
For those among this community who don’t want to wait until the game’s sequel comes out to see more of its dystopian world and go on more quests with Johnny Silverhand, last night’s Game Awards proved even more exciting than they were for fans of game of the year winner Elden Ring.
That’s because of a new trailer for the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion, which we now know will feature actor Idris Elba.
Are you chomping at the bit to play some fresh Cyberpunk 2077 content?
This reveal has gone down pretty well with the game’s fans, as a thread on the announcement the subreddit r/cyberpunkgame, which began with a post from user TribufuFuba, confirms.
Their fellow players certainly weren’t shy about expressing their feelings on the actor, with user Silver_Angel519 saying: “Idris Elba makes anything better,” and Dopaminjutsu declaring: “CD Projekt Red really does have my demographic on [expletive] lock down.”
Meanwhile, others debated what the inclusion of such a high-profile figure might suggest about Phantom Liberty, with user TheReplacer saying: “That is a pretty big actor to bring on just for a DLC," leading DreamerOfRain to reply: “Which, I hope, means the expansion is almost as big as [the] actual game.”
Regardless of whether that lofty wish comes true, the fresh teaser trailer for the DLC released at the awards, which you can watch in full above, certainly seems to suggest that Elba’s character, FIA agent Solomon Reed, will have a substantial role to play in the military-themed expansion.
If his lines about burning the settlement of Dogtown, which looks to serve as the setting for the DLC, to the ground and peace coming at a price are anything to go by, your choice over whether to side with Reed could have major consequences.
Regardless of whether you’re now heading back to Night City to get some more shooting practice in, just in case things go south in Dogtown, make sure to follow us for coverage of some interesting Cyberpunk 2077 mods and info on the Phantom Liberty expansion.
