Bungie is adding the newest faction, the Dread, to Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga finale, The Final Shape, with fans excited at a brand-new enemy type to cap off 10 years of the franchise.
While there have been unique factions throughout the years players have had to deal with, such as the Taken, the Scorn, the Red Legion, or the Lucent Brood to name a few, they've all been derivative from the game's main three enemy types that have been around from the start: the Cabal, Hive, and Fallen.
The Dread, on the other hand, are unique enemies with never-before-seen designs. As revealed during The Final Shape livestream, these enemies are the backbone of The Witness' army, with players already going toe-to-toe with some of the biggest foes in their ranks - the Tormentors, which debuted in Lightfall.
With how incredibly powerful Guardians will be for this final showdown, with the new subclass, Prismatic, letting players wield abilities from all Light and Darkness subclasses, the Dread will come with some nasty tricks up their sleeve too.
The Bungie development team fondly referred to the flying Dread as the "bat with a gun," and was used as an example of one of the many threats that the army of the Witness will pose to the Guardians. These flying beasts have the ability to use an ability called screech which, if successful, will lock Guardians from using their abilities for a short period of time.
Of course, players who faced Tormentors during last year's Lightfall already know what they're capable of, as they can even one-shot Guardians in higher difficulties, so there's some excitement from the hardcore player base to see what kind of challenge the Dread pose in Nightfalls and The Final Shape raid.
Players will have to wait until The Final Shape drops on June 4 to face off against the Dread. The expansion is coming out on PC, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
