Now a few months after its initial release, Blizzard has announced the first major expansion to be released for Diablo 4. To the delight of long-time fans, the expansion will see players return to the iconic Torajan Jungles, seen previously in Diablo 2.
Showcased in the opening ceremony for BlizzCon 2023, the first teasers for Diablo's first major expansion were revealed to fans at the Anaheim Convention Centre and online. Titled "Vessel of Hatred", the expansion is set to be released towards the end of 2024.
The story of Vessel of Hatred will see players continue along the plot of the base game. This will include learning more about the story of Prime Evil Mephisto, one of the antagonists from the base game, and his further plans regarding the future of Sanctuary.
Diablo 4's story will play out in the Nahantu Jungles, which is possibly a new name for the region of Torajan or refers to a more precise location within Torajan; the exact details have been left for speculation. However, the location will likely prove familiar to players of the original game and 2021's Diablo 2 Resurrected.
Another feature promised in the Vessel of Hatred expansion is a new class for Diablo 4. Blizzard has said that this class isn't something we've seen before in a Diablo game, and while leaks have pointed towards the upcoming addition of a druid-esque class to the game, nothing further is confirmed at this time.
Also in the BlizzCon opening ceremony, Blizzard teased the upcoming Midwinter Blight event for Diablo 4, set to release on December 12th. This event will be the first seasonal event to grace Diablo 4 and will last for three weeks.
If you want to have a look at the Vessel of Hatred expansion for yourself, you can catch the official announcement trailer down below. It'll probably be quite some time before we hear any more news on Vessel of Hatred, with the developers saying to not expect any further news until the Summer of 2024.
