PlayStation has managed to dominate the console wars with some great exclusives like God of War, The Last of Us, and Horizon Zero Dawn; one crown jewel they have for a franchise is the hit Sucker Punch game Ghost of Tsushima.

The game is currently gearing up for a sequel, Ghost of Yotei, but it looks like fans could return to the realm of Tsushima by 2027.

Ghost of Tsushima Anime Announced

During the Sony CES 2025 press conference (via Polygon), it was revealed that there will be an upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime from PlayStation Productions, Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Sony Music. The series will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions, Batman Ninja), and the animation will be handled by studio Kamikaze Douga, who had also handled titles like Sand Land and Batman Ninja—which means that this series could also be CG-animated.

Before fans expect a retelling of Jin Sakai’s story, though, it’s confirmed that this anime adaptation will be based on Tsushima’s multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. PS Productions head Asad Qizilbash had this to say about the collaboration:

Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project… and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”

How is GOT: Legends Different?

While the original game featuring Jin Sakai was a grounded, realistic story about how one man was able to build a myth around himself, Legends embraces the more fantastical aspects of Japanese folklore and features more trippy visuals compared to the main game.

What’s different is that it splits the gameplay elements of Jin into four different classes of characters—Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin—all specializing in one particular element of Jin’s skills in the main game.

Considering that, it’s possible that this series could also focus on a different class of characters who could be banding together to take on some of the more fantastical creatures featured in the Legends expansion.

There may be room for Jin Sakai to appear in the series, but his cemented storyline could complicate any narrative ideas planned for the anime. Perhaps the series could be more related to Ghost of Yotei.

Besides the upcoming anime, Sucker Punch is currently preparing for the launch of their highly-anticipated sequel, Ghost of Yotei.

While the story isn’t going to feature Jin Sakai anymore, his legend is pretty much alive, and it’s said that the new protagonist will be taking a leaf out of Jin’s book to create her own myth in a whole new setting. While katanas are expected to clash in the game, players are also hopeful for different weapons and fighting styles this time.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime is expected to come out in 2027, but Ghost of Yotei will launch for the PS5 later this year.
