From turning Concord into a revitalised pre-war style town, creating new power armour variants or giving you the chance to ride around on a Deathclaw, Fallout 4’s modding community has accomplished a massive amount over the years.
As we covered last week, a group containing some of The Commonwealth’s most well-known creators sought to add another incredible achievement to the list this past weekend, by building a massive mod from scratch during a 12 hour live-streamed modding jam, designed to raise money for charity.
Despite the daunting nature of this task, as you might expect given the talent involved, the team somehow managed to deliver a creation that matched the brief in a single day, and you can play it right now.
Ever wanted to play a Fallout 4 quest mod made from scratch in 12 hours to aid a good cause?
The creation this uber-talented group of modders made during the jam, which formed part of the month-long Voiceapalooza series of events organised by voice actor Wes Johnson and charity initiative Fallout For Hope to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association, is called ‘Modding for Charity - Trunk's Malfunction’.
As uploader and SimSettlements guru Kinggath outlines in its description: “The mod consists of a voiced quest for mid to high level characters, that will take you about 30 minutes to play.”
In order to kick off the adventure, which involves a new player home by Elianora, a new custom weapon by Neeher, and a whole bunch of other unique creations from the streaming session, which you can watch in full from Kinggath’s point of view below, you’ll need to head to Diamond City’s market and wait until nightfall.
From here you’ll be able to chat to Trunk, the mod’s namesake, who looks to be a baseball-obsessed Mr Gutsy bot that’s taken over the night shift at the stand of Moe Cronin, one of the many characters in the vanilla game voiced by Johnson.
Before you dive in though, you might want to make a donation to the jam’s charity of choice and add a bit of extra moolah to the massive total of just over $5k that the modders' efforts have raised thus far, which is double their original goal of $2.5k.
Update: The modders have since confirmed that, thanks to some fundraising campaigns from individual members of the group that were conducted via separate Tiltify pages, the total amount raised by the jam is actually around $10k.
Regardless of whether you’re now helping Trunk solve the mystery of his malfunction, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods for Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas. You can also check out our mods of the month for April 2023.
