With 16 mainline games, two remakes, and an MMO, the Final Fantasy franchise has slowly shifted from the classic turn-based RPG to more action-focused gameplay seen in Final Fantasy 15.
Considered one of the more unpopular entries, Final Fantasy 15 has been criticized as incomplete and rushed due to its narrative, which required DLCs, movies, animes, and books to complete.
While Noctis’ story may not be the best Final Fantasy out there, fans on Reddit think that the game deserves more recognition than it initially had.
Originally posted on Reddit by user u/PriorFudge928, the user shared that they are playing the game for the fourth time and have always loved its environment, sound design, and music.
They added that they still do not understand the story, but the road trip vibes that happen throughout the game is what keeps them hooked. They went on to say that collecting recipes, photos, and the game in general feels like a digital comfort food for them.

Several players echoed their sentiments in the post. While they say the game is good, the DLCs enhance the overall gaming experience. The movie Kingsglaive gives much more context to the story, and the additional stories from the companion anime Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, DLCs, and books provide a much clearer narrative about what exactly happened in Final Fantasy 15.
Many others highlight the interactions between Noctis and his companions, referencing Ignis’ food creations, such as the Cup Noodle recipe. Another strength of the game that many consider is its fishing mechanic, with some saying it has the best fishing mini-game out of all Final Fantasy games. Another fan compared Final Fantasy 15 to Cyberpunk 2077, stating how both games are similar: mediocre at launch but exciting and enjoyable with the DLCs.
Final Fantasy 15 may be far down the list of the best Final Fantasy games, but at least players get to see a much more realistic Chocobo, thanks to Noctis and his adventures.
