Epic Games has confirmed that the long-rumoured Fortnite first-person mode is finally coming later this year. Sadly, don't expect it to hit the main battle royale modes soon.

Epic had a busy State of Unreal presentation at GDC 2024 on March 20, showcasing what the future of their tentpole title will look like, confirming they'll be adding a permanent first-person mode at some point in 2024.

The rumours of a first-person Fortnite mode have been circulating for years at this point, with the first rumours dating back to 2020. The biggest leak happened in 2023 when reliable insider HYPEX stated that a first-person mode was coming to the battle royale that year, something that didn't end up coming to fruition.

First-person is finally coming to Fortnite!

Epic did add weapons that switch to a first-person perspective by aiming down sights, but that was the extent of it. Players have created community modes that take advantage of these weapons, but seeing something official from Epic is something fans have been clamouring for.

As we've mentioned, don't expect a first-person mode to come for the main battle royales modes straight away, as Epic confirmed they'll be launching this new perspective in Fortnite Creative later this year.

Creative is a sandbox in which players can come up with their own game modes, giving them the freedom to build entirely new modes and share them online for all Fortnite players to enjoy.

Now that it's confirmed, the community will hope for a smooth integration via Creative in hopes of getting official modes with the first-person perspective sooner rather than later.

If you are interested in joining the Fortnite hype after today's announcement, there's plenty of content for you to enjoy now that Chapter 5 Season 2 has finally kicked off, including a fresh battle pass to grind with tons of Greek mythology-inspired skins, new weekly quests to tackle, and even an exclusive Ascendant Midas skin, which can be obtained for free.
