Gangs of Sherwood Release Date Countdown
The game was previously set to launch earlier in the month, but player feedback saw it pushed back to give developers time for fine-tuning. 2023 has been a great year for gaming, so we hope this extra time in the oven will see Gangs of Sherwood release at its best.
Gangs of Sherwood platforms
Gangs of Sherwood is making its way to PC via Steam and Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X / S. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the game will be coming to last-gen consoles or alternative PC storefronts like GOG.
Despite appearing on Xbox and PC, it doesn't look like the game is going to be on Game Pass or included in any PlayStation Plus catalogues. That may change in future, and if it does, we'll be sure to update this guide ASAP.
Gangs of Sherwood news
Gangs of Sherwood was first teased in July 2022, and since then we've been fed plenty of details on the game's story, gameplay, and characters. In essence, it's a four-player co-op action game set in a reimagined Nottingham.
The Warhammer inspiration is immediately clear, but the game has taken steps to differentiate itself from the many Left 4 Dead clones of recent years. Players can play solo or with three friends, as there are four playable characters to choose from.
It should be noted that solo players will not be joined by AI controlling the other characters, though difficulty will be adjusted. The playable cast includes:
- Robin Hood is a notorious archer with a quiver full of special arrows.
- Little John is a melee-focused fighter with great combos.
- Maid Marian, a fast assassin, with options for short and long-range.
- Friar Tuck, a tank and healer, with powerful area-of-effect attacks.
Story-wise, the Sheriff of Nottingham has been oppressing the people of England. Players will be completing missions in various locations to help the rebellion thrive and fight back, with upgrades and new moves unlocking as the story progresses. This is mostly done by giving riches to the poor and using any remaining gold to buy equipment.
It's not currently clear how long the game will be or how many missions are in it, but there's no shortage of Robin Hood stories to draw inspiration from. Gameplay-wise, Gangs of Sherwood seems to feature a combat system similar to Devil May Cry's with combos and rankings encouraging total mastery.
There's been plenty of character spotlights and gameplay showcases - too many to list in this hub - so fans should check out the official playlist for a deep dive.
Gangs of Sherwood price
The game can currently be pre-purchased on Steam for £34.99 / $39.99 or on consoles for £44.99 / $49.99. A prestige skin set exists as a reward for pre-orders, while the more expensive Digital Lionheart edition also includes an artbook, soundtrack, early access, and some additional skin packs.
That's everything we know about Gangs of Sherwood. We'll keep an eye out for any juicy new details in the weeks ahead, but for now, check out our Elden Ring 2 speculation or hopes for Bloodborne 2.
