It's that time of the year again and 2024 has been a roller coaster ride for many video game fans. From amazing multiplayer titles such as Helldivers 2 to the charming The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, 2024 had a considerably large list of amazing games.

While The Game Awards recently concluded with Astro Bot as the Game of The Year, we also have our list of amazing games we loved throughout 2024. The Gfinity Game of The Year Awards 2024 is our way of recognizing these amazing games that changed modern gaming.

And no, we did not include any DLCs or add-on content when we curated this list. We think that DLCs should always have their own category (you can ask ChatGPT for that, too), so without further ado, here are the official Gfinity Game of the Year Awards for 2024!

Best PlayStation Game 2024 - Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 started strong and continued to be a great game until the end of 2024. With so many memes and "frends" made along the way, Helldivers 2 is the perfect PlayStation title for us.

From intense encounters to nerve-wracking extractions, Helldivers 2 is a wonderful PlayStation experience many of us will never forget. The community behind it, as well as developer Arrowhead Game Studios, worked together like the perfect symbiosis in making sure that every Helldiver experiences the best of both the game and the PlayStation 5 console.

While there have been certain controversies surrounding the game in recent months, it is undeniable that Helldivers 2 delivered the multiplayer experience many gamers have always wanted. We may have said goodbye to the couch co-op games of the retro game era but Helldivers 2 is a godsend for many of us who always wanted to play with "frends".

Best Xbox Game 2024 - Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was first announced, we were skeptical about how Bethesda would make an Indiana Jones video game work in the first person. Considering Indy's movies are full of nonstop action and running around dilapidated temples, we figured the game is best played in the third person.

But we played it anyway, and honestly, it was so perfect in first-person that we can't imagine playing it in third-person. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the perfect example of how Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios should continue to make games from now on.

Its compelling story and gameplay perfectly fit the franchise it represents, and it is a great way to bring new and old fans together. Xbox is the perfect platform for Indy, and Microsoft did a fantastic job making it available to many Xbox players via the Game Pass.

Best Nintendo Game 2024 - The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Starring the titular Princess Zelda herself, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom feels like a nice dose of nostalgia in a cup. While few older games actually featured Zelda as the main protagonist, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is nostalgic in a way that its charming visuals and story felt like one of those bedtime stories we had as kids, except that it's the hero that needs saving and the princess is doing the questing.

The Echoes mechanic is also something that feels very Nintendo. Who would've thought that a simple copy-and-paste mechanic could be an intuitive mechanic for a Zelda game? Nintendo is on another level with the way they created a new Zelda formula in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is also a welcome change after Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Yes, Link's amazing arsenal of tools is amazing but nothing can beat Zelda, her rod, and a handful of Old Beds at her disposal.

Best VR Game 2024 - Batman: Arkham Shadow

Many gamers still think that VR can't go toe-to-toe with the more popular gaming consoles out there but Batman: Arkham Shadow just proved that the Meta Quest is a great console device. Batman: Arkham Shadow amazingly lets us wear the cowl and feel like the Dark Knight himself.

Hours of nonstop Arkham action and tired vocal chords after imitating Batman had us wanting more. The game is fun and action-packed, but it's the physical fatigue that kept us from playing the game for a longer period. But hey, that's the beauty of VR, you are totally immersed in the game you are playing.

If only we had metahuman stamina like Bruce Wayne himself, we'd be finishing the game's wide range of achievements in no time. Batman: Arkham Shadow has nice gameplay, a gripping story, and is the perfect VR game this 2024.

Best Ongoing Game 2024 - No Man's Sky

If there's one developer that is more generous than Santa Claus, it's Hello Games, and No Man's Sky just kept on giving this 2024. All of its massive updates are for free, without any additional cost. From fishing across the universe to simple, yet amazing quality-of-life improvements such as cross-saves, No Man's Sky had redeemed itself a long time ago and yet it kept on making sure that it's the best purchase you will ever have in any of your consoles.

At this rate, No Man's Sky will continue to become bigger as the developers shower it with passion and dedication. This kind of success not only rests within the developers but also in the community that supports it. No Man's Sky has one of the most active and friendly communities out there.

Thanks to everyone's support, No Man's Sky will continue to be the best ongoing game for many more years to come.

Gfinity Ultimate Game of the Year 2024 - Black Myth: Wukong

It feels like Black Myth: Wukong is an underdog story, and yet it managed to captivate the hearts of many and break several gaming records. It is the game that boosted Steam to have its most concurrent players of all time, but it came from a game studio that many never heard about.

Game Science is not a newbie when it comes to making games, but it managed to retell the popular Journey to the West story in Black Myth: Wukong. The game is aesthetically pleasing and managed to utilize Unreal Engine 5 wonderfully. Boss fights are hard but satisfying, and the game won't let you log off feeling incomplete. It combined the best of God of War, Sekiro, Devil May Cry, and many others into a story that will keep you hooked for a long time.

If you haven't played this game, then take this as a sign to do so. Black Myth: Wukong is a rare game that comes once every generation. While 2025 has tons of spectacular games, Black Myth: Wukong made 2024 a memorable year for us and many gamers.

And there you have it! If you've never played any of the games above before, you still have time to play these games before 2024 ends. In the meantime, be sure to stay updated with the latest gaming news and stories by following Gfinity Esports.
