GTA 6 fan suggests that the game should have taxes and bills to balance its economy

While some GTA players are still trying to enjoy everything that Los Santos has to offer by getting up to wacky hijinks and spending all of their hard-earned cash, others are already looking forward to GTA 6.

For some, this has involved trying to predict what the next game’s map will look like, arguing that it shouldn’t have an online mode or simply agonising over what'll happen to their current GTA Online fortunes when it eventually arrives.

Much like that last option, the big GTA 6 issue on the mind of one player concerns making money, though it seems that rather than being concerned about ending up in virtual poverty, they’re worried about becoming so rich that their cash becomes meaningless.

Do you think GTA 6 needs these checks and balances on wealth?

Their ideas regarding how the game’s developers could stop this prospective problem from becoming a reality are the topic of a recent thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, which begins with a post from the player in question, user DREWlMUS, who kicked things off by entitling their essay: “Addressing the ‘money issue’, balancing how much is earned and the costs of living in the GTA universe.”

They then outlined some proposals that they believe might help to counterbalance the obscene amounts of cash being earned by players in either single-player or online, which included expanding the kind of charges currently employed in some areas of GTA Online to include the likes of phone bills, insurance bills and even the dreaded threat of annual taxes, arguing: “The more that money goes out (of your account), the more likely you will be to spend wisely and actually care about money.”

A few of their fellow criminals thought they might be onto something, even if they had taken it a little too far, with user Moistycake saying: “Having one reoccurring bill for each property you own would be a better way to implement this system.” and suggesting that the ability to take out loans could be an interesting addition to the games’ economic ecosystem.

User NoVidyaGames took a similar view, musing: “In other GTAs you can buy up everything (safehouses, clothes, etc.) and money just feels worthless after that. We're not talking (in terms of changes) about barely scraping by, but having to make some smarter choices.”

On the other hand, some players were totally against the idea of having to manage any kind of budget, with user h0b03 arguing: “The whole point of GTA is that it’s somewhat unrealistic, committing heinous crimes and being pursued by the cops for like an hour, or stealing a car in like 5 seconds.” and Upstairs-Fig6037 dubbing DREWlMUS’ idea “Tedium Simulator, coming Fall 2024.”
