While some are already focused on what might happen once GTA 6 gets a concrete release date, many GTA Online players are just trying to make the most of their remaining time in Los Santos.
After all, with plenty of regular events to get involved in and an array of new cars having been dispatched over the past few months, there’s still lots of interesting stuff around in the game to keep enterprising criminals who haven’t yet retreated to the crime-free life of a solo chef busy.
While last week’s iteration of the weekly updates that play a big role in keeping the game fresh brought with it some polarising price changes to various in-game vehicles, which led to some interesting spending sprees, the latest looks to have briefly caused some big issues for PC players.
Were you affected by issues while trying to play GTA Online immediately following yesterday’s update?
According to Rockstar community figure Tez2, the weekly update rolled out for GTA Online yesterday was accompanied on PC by some revisions of the game’s Anti-cheat mechanics, which may have been responsible for a wave of crashes affecting people playing the game legitimately.
A thread about the issues on the GTA Online subreddit saw users like ookabanukanok reveal: “(For me, the) game just freezes, then crashes back (to) my steam home page. (It) might do it right away, (it) might do it three hours (into a session). (There’s) no way to predict it either.”
While some users weren’t too happy about being inconvenienced, others mused about how important fresh measures being taken to fight cheating are, with OrionMessier recounting: “(I’ve) tried playing with a friend several weekends in a row (recently) and every single time we'd get into some fun situation trying to spontaneously spar with other civil adults in the game, some (idiot) would ruin everything by hacking from the shadows.”
Thankfully, the crashing issues look to have been rectified quite rapidly, with Tez2 following up their previous tweet a short time later with another saying: “Rockstar, just a few minutes ago, pushed out a new tuneable update to address the PC crashes. (Things) should be back to normal now.”
So, if you’re planning on jumping into the game over the next few days to sample the new update, which is headlined by a 50% increase in rewards for Air Freight Cargo sell missions and the continuation of the hard mode event for the Last Dose missions, you shouldn’t have to worry about being thrown back to your desktop midway through a car chase.
