Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 a few weeks ago, and fans have a lot more questions than answers after that first teaser dropped.

One of the big ones is how much the Switch 2 is going to be when it launches, and Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has an answer—sort of.

How Much is the Nintendo Switch 2 Going to Cost?

In a recent Q&A for Nintendo’s Q3 earnings (via Video Games Chronicle), Furukawa was asked about how they would handle the pricing for the Switch 2, seeing that a lot has changed since the launch of the original Switch, including Japan’s increased inflation rate and the change in the exchange rate with other countries.

In any case, Furukawa says that they are considering all the external factors as well as “the affordability that our customers expect from Nintendo products.”

For context, when the Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017, the device was worth $299.99. Adjusting for inflation today, the Switch would have cost $386.25. So if Nintendo is looking at a realistic price point for the Switch 2, it’s very possible it could be around that number.

The Switch 2 was Already Delayed

As it turns out, the Nintendo Switch 2 was originally planned to release much earlier in late 2024, but Nintendo had decided to delay the release because they wanted to make sure that they had enough consoles to meet demand at launch—something that PlayStation wasn’t anticipating when they came out with the PS5.

It’s worth noting that the company is also expecting several scalpers to already have their eyes on the Switch 2. It’s not clear exactly what they’re planning, but previous countermeasures before have limitations on how many consoles a customer could buy on launch day. That being said, it didn’t stop the PS5 from getting scalped for hundreds of dollars.

Switch 2 Nintendo Direct

For now, fans are just waiting for the Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2, which will take place on April 2 at 6:00 AM PT (2:00 PM GMT). The event is expected to give the full rundown on the Switch 2, including the features as well as the specs.

While the console is expected to be way more powerful than the original Switch, some have speculated that the new joy-cons can be converted into a mouse, which could mean that players could try out keyboard-and-mouse set-ups on their Switch 2.

Then again, this is just speculation based on the teaser, but with the Steam Deck already boasting some impressive computing power compared to the Switch, Nintendo is expected to up their game. After all, the company has been known to set the standard when it comes to technological advancements in games. They did so with the Switch, and they did so previously with the Wii.

Sure the Wii U was a major stumble, but that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from being a solid game brand over the past century.

Nintendo Direct is set to take place on April 2.
