Despite the circulating mock-ups and being confirmed to be backward compatible, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to make waves among many hardware critics, including Digital Foundry.

In an X post, The Verge's senior editor Tom Warren stated that among the many rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, the console being compared to the PS4 Pro sounds funny. However, Digital Foundry's John Linneman thinks otherwise.

John Linneman proceeded to elaborate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have new Nvidia tech which opens its doors to better features. There are rumors that the new Nintendo console will have features similar to Nvidia's DLSS, an AI-powered tech that improves the quality and performance of many video games.

If this is the case, then the next-gen handheld could be at par or superior to Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro. Since the original Nintendo Switch uses more power when docked, the new console is highly likely to retain this feature, making it a powerful console device able to play demanding games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Ghost of Tsushima.

That is if Sony will be willing to have Nintendo versions of these titles.

Released in 2013, the PlayStation 4 had many amazing titles but its tech is more than a decade old, even with the PlayStation 4 Pro specs. If Nintendo does not utilize the modern features that newer Nvidia chips offer, then it'll be just another Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to have a larger screen and Joy-Cons, hinting that Nintendo may be adopting a similar approach to other handheld device manufacturers like Valve and Asus when it comes to device portability and capabilities.

Many hardware and Nintendo fans agree with what John Linneman said, stating that newer games are starting to become more demanding, and utilizing AI may just be one of the best ways to make games.
