What is Magic in Lords of the Fallen?
There are three schools of magic in Lords of the Fallen. Each school of magic represents and is derived from one of the three warring gods that the story is based on. Each school of magic has its unique playstyle, spells, and catalysts. Furthermore, different enemies will have different resistances to various types of magic to make the system balanced. Here are the three types of magic in Lords of the Fallen.
Rhogar
Rhogar is the magic of the god Adyr, and is based primarily around pyromancy. Rhogar spells scale with the Inferno stat, so that's what you want to sink points into for a pyromancy build. Rhogar magic has cool abilities like fireballs, flamethrowers, explosive meteors, and even summons that can breathe fire.
Radiance
Radiance is the holy magic of the god Orius. Radiant spells scale with the Radiance stat, so that's what you want to sink points into for a paladin or holy priest build. Radiant spells are primarily focused on buffs, cleanses and healing. However, you also get access to lighting magic such as bolts, orbs, and lances. You can even unlock some powerful radiant magic blades for combat later on, so it's not a totally defensive magic type.
Umbral
Umbral is the magic of the Umbral Realm. Umbral magic actually scales with both the Radiance and Inferno stats, so you don't need to dump points into a specific new stat. Umbral magic is slow and deals some serious damage once it makes contact. You're going to be launching slow-moving bombs and waves to mow down your enemies.
Others
There are actually some other minor schools of magic besides the main three systems. While they don't get fully dedicated systems, you can still get spells for elements such as frost and poison. We'll update this guide as we get the full details on those new magic systems.
How to get Spells in Lords of the Fallen
The developers have said that any spell that you see an enemy use, you can get your hands on it or at least a variation of it. Here are some methods you can use to get new magic spells in Lords of the Fallen:
- Explore and open chests for a chance to find spells as loot.
- Buy or learn new spells from NPCs.
- Kill enemies casting the spell you want, as they can potentially drop it.
- Soul flay boss remnants for the boss item, which can be turned into a magic spell by an NPC at the main hub.
