It looks like Microsoft may have plans to bring Marvel’s friendly neighborhood superhero to the Xbox family of consoles.

Eagle-eyed players noticed that at the 00:03 mark of Xbox’s promotional video for their showcase at IGN’s FanFest, Miles Morales — specifically the Spider-Verse version, not the Insomniac iteration — makes a brief appearance.

This has left many wondering: what is a Sony-owned character doing in a Microsoft promo? Fans were quick to speculate, with theories ranging from a potential Spider-Verse 3 teaser to something entirely unrelated to a new Spider-Man game.

However, this raises an important question again — why is it there at all? Everyone knows that Insomniac’s Spider-Man games aren’t part of the Xbox catalog, and Sony clearly holds the rights to the Spider-Verse films. This could mean one thing: Microsoft may have struck a deal with Sony for a Spider-Verse project.

What exactly could it be? We won’t know for sure until the full showcase takes place on February 24 at 10 a.m. PST.

Of course, this is all speculation, but a Telltale-style Spider-Verse game isn’t out of the question. It would make sense, especially with the third film on the horizon.

That said, Telltale isn’t listed among Xbox’s partner studios. Instead, the showcase highlights DON’T NOD — focused on Lost Records: Bloom & Rage — along with Playstack, No More Robots, Raw Fury, Team 17, 11 bit Studios, and others.

If it’s not a Telltale game, it could simply be another project from one of these developers. Either way, fans can only hope.

The worst-case scenario? This could just be Microsoft and Xbox striking a deal with Sony to bring Spider-Man movies to their platform. While that wouldn’t be a bad outcome, with Microsoft games increasingly making their way to Sony consoles, it may only be a matter of time before Sony reciprocates with Xbox.

Whether anything comes to fruition remains to be seen, but this potential hint has certainly left fans excited for what the future may hold.
