The Minecraft Live 2023 stream had a ton of surprises in store for fans. On top of revealing a new Star Wars crossover, Path of the Jedi, the winner of the Minecraft Mob vote was announced - the armadillo!

Leaking prior to the official announcement, the Mob vote was received with a bit of fair criticism, with players criticising the decision to keep making these contests instead of adding all the content to the different biomes.

Regardless, the developers decided to pit the armadillo against two strong foes, crabs and penguins. Despite coming in as an underdog (who doesn't love penguins!), the armadillo's victory wasn't even a close one, as revealed by the voting results at Minecraft Live.

The Minecraft Mob vote results!

Over five million players took part in this year's Minecraft Mob vote with the results shared on Minecraft Live and posted on social media as well. With 42.3% of the votes, the armadillo took the win against the crab (32.5%) and the penguin (25.2%).

In the official Minecraft Live recap, it was confirmed the armadillo will inhabit the savannah biome and will have some nice crafting items if you interact with them.

The armadillo lives in the savannah biome. If you startle the armadillo, it will curl up into a blocky ball! The armadillo also drops a scute that you can use to craft a new type of armor, wolf armor! Which will give your pet wolf some extra protection.

Fans are understandably not happy with this decision. Not because there's a community that wants nothing to do with armadillos, but because as we've mentioned, they're more angry at the fact that they'll be missing out on content they could have if all three animals were added to different biomes.

It is what it is, though! So congrats to armadillo and Minecraft enthusiasts all around. For more content, check out how a Minecraft player made a pet unkillable!
