The best Modern Warfare 2 players on the planet are always on the hunt for any way to gain an advantage over the opposition. With millions of dollars on the line, those competing in the Call of Duty League (CDL) know all the tricks perfect for outwitting the enemy team.

As the focus turns towards the launch of Season Three, fans of the competitive scene drop into ranked matches on a regular basis. Despite the restriction of a popular assault rifle, ranked continues to prove extremely popular.

During the downtime ahead of the fourth CDL tournament of the season, one pro player has uncovered an ingenious method to recharge the Dead Silence field upgrade.

The ultimate betrayal for Dead Silence?

During a recent stream, Los Angeles Guerrillas player and former world champion Alec ‘Arcitys’ Sanderson decided to eliminate his teammate in order to avoid running out of Dead Silence. To his surprise, the field upgrade regenerated for another dose of silent footsteps.

“I gotta teamkill you,” jokes the pro looking to break into the enemy-controlled Hardpoint hill. “My stream just saw me get Dead Silence back!” Typically, scoring a kill on an enemy player refills the timer once Dead Silence is active, but it appears players can betray their own squadmates to earn an advantage.

It’s unclear if friendly fire refilling Dead Silence is an unintentional exploit or another game-breaking bug that could spark plenty of frustration in future ranked matches. The unexpected discovery follows an issue where players are left unable to use Tactical Sprint. Despite the March 21 patch notes claiming the issue is fixed, players are still reporting the inability to sprint quickly.

There’s a high chance Infinity Ward is aware of friendly fire giving players an advantage, so expect changes to arrive in the not-too-distant future. Until then, keep an eye on any teammates following close by.
