As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's cycle starts to wind down, all eyes are turning towards the launch of the heavily-rumoured Modern Warfare 3. Although Activision is yet to officially announce the game's name, leaks and rumours continue to point towards a sequel to 2022's release.

To this point, different leaks have claimed that an in-game reveal of the new title could be on the cards and suggested that a classic feature from previous Call of Duty titles might be on its way back to the series.

The latest leak to emerge all but confirms the name of 2023's Call of Duty, in addition to possibly foreshadowing the return of an iconic Modern Warfare villain.

Call of Duty 2023 is Modern Warfare 3

In a now-deleted Twitter post, user algebra_sloth shared images of some seemingly unreleased promotional packaging from Monster Energy, which looks to have revealed the Modern Warfare 3 logo, alongside two returning characters.

The packaging features a red logo with Captain Price in front of it. Behind Price is a red face lurking in the shadows and, based on the conclusion of the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, it seems likely that the face in the background could be Makarov.

Of course, it's important to take leaks with a pinch of salt, but the official Call of Duty Twitter has added further fuel to the fire with a cryptic post following the posting of the packaging.

This isn't the first occasion that's seen food and drink potentially play a part in leaking the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise. Ahead of Black Ops Cold War's reveal, a packet of Doritos was responsible for giving fans their first look at Treyarch's most recent release.

Modern Warfare 3 will be the sixth entry into the Modern Warfare series, which dates back to 2007 with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, 2023's Modern Warfare 3 will be the first title spearheaded by the developer since 2021's Vanguard.

Modern Warfare 3 release date

Activision is yet to reveal an official release date for Modern Warfare 3, but comments from a Federal Judge overseeing Microsoft's recent legal battle with the FTC have suggested that the game is likely slated for a November release.
