Season 1 of Marvel Rivals will put the spotlight on the Fantastic Four, and the first two heroes that will be dropped in the season are the team’s leaders, Reed Richards and Sue Storm.
While Reed’s abilities have been leaked for a while now, NetEase Games has just dropped the official ability breakdown for Mr. Fantastic, and many fans have been comparing him to One Piece protagonist Luffy.
Reed Richards in Marvel Rivals
In Marvel Rivals, Reed makes full use of his elasticity, and he’s classified as a Duelist. Besides being able to reach enemies at a distance with his powers, Reed can also grab and move enemies to different positions. He also can deflect projectiles, and he has an ‘Inflated’ state that turns him into a bouncy hulk for a few seconds.
Here’s Mr. Fantastic’s ability breakdown:
- Primary Fire –Elastic Punch – Reed uses his powers to make stretchy punches that travel a certain distance. Players have also noticed that they can be whipped around while they’re outstretched so Reed can damage more than just one enemy.
- Secondary Fire – Rubber Grip – Reed can entangle enemies that he’s hit. If you press the primary fire again, he will grab a second enemy and bang them against each other, displacing them and causing damage.
- Shift – Reflexive Rubber – Reed stretches his body for a limited period of time and absorbs damage; he can then launch that damage in a targeted direction. As per the official breakdown, this ability is powerful enough to bounce back an ultimate.
- E – Flexible Elongation – Mr. Fantastic can select a target and dash toward them. Depending on the target Reed will either shield from incoming damage if they’re an ally, and deal damage if they’re an enemy.
- Ultimate – Brainiac Bounce – Mr. Fantastic goes into an inflated state and does some smash attacks to the ground, knocking back enemies. This ability to smash will reset whenever an enemy is hit, and players can repeat this move up to six times before the ultimate ends.
- Passive – Using Mr. Fantastic’s skills will generate Elasticity. Elasticity will boost damage, and when it is reached in full, Reed will enter an ‘Inflated State’ which enlarges his body, boosts his damage, and doubles his healt.
During the Inflated State though, Reed can’t use any of his other abilities, but players can de-trigger it if they decide to use Reed’s usual kit mid-battle.
Say That Word Again
Though Mr. Fantastic is categorized as a Duelist, his abilities give him some great utility in the field that would categorize him as a Vanguard. If anything, his kit reflects how he is a natural leader for his team, being able to jump from different roles when needed.
After weeks of hype surrounding the Mr. Fantastic leaks, it’s kind of surprising that he’s releasing with Invisible Woman since Human Torch is the one that got the most leaks besides Reed. By all means, it seems fitting that Reed is released alongside his partner Sue Storm, and the bickering siblings Johnny and Ben Grimm get released together mid-season.
Marvel Rivals Season 1 launches on Jan. 10; the game is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
