The Nintendo Switch 2 will be a hot commodity when it comes out, but fans are worried about all those scalpers. It’s been near impossible to get some of these new consoles at launch, as scalpers buy them en masse and sell them for higher prices after. While overpriced systems are inevitable, Nintendo is preparing to counter the anti-consumer tactics.

Shuntaro Furukawa, the President of Nintendo, spoke to the Japanese press and said that the company is preparing to fight back against scalpers. Furukawa claims they’ve learned from the first Switch’s stock issues and seemingly have countermeasures prepared. Hopefully, this is enough, since these second-hand sellers have gotten away with most nefarious tactics so far.

“We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations,” Furukawa told Nikkei.

Regardless of their tactics, fans better be prepared to stay up late and have plenty of tabs open on their computers to pre-order the Switch 2. The first Switch was notoriously hard to get at first, with most consumers getting it a year or so later after it launched. Sony’s PlayStation 5 also went through similar hardships, with scalpers getting their hands on them during the pandemic.

There’s no denying that Nintendo’s new console is going to be a major talking point for fans, given how popular its predecessor was. Fans everywhere are hoping that this is going to be a major improvement over the first Switch, especially with those magnetized Joy-Cons. Sure, it might just be a stronger version of its predecessor, but for once there’s nothing wrong with Nintendo playing it safe.
