Rumors are claiming that Capcom will remake Resident Evil 0 next, which is an interesting move on the company’s part. Most games they’ve remade were already critical darlings, but Zero has gotten mixed reviews since its original launch on the Gamecube. Whatever the case, this should be an interesting remake from the beloved publisher.

Gaming Insider Dusk Golem claims that Zero will be the next remake. The insider was originally telling fans that Jill Valentine wouldn’t be in the heavily rumored Resident Evil 9. Dusk Golem was then asked about the next game that’s going to get a remake, which he then said was going to be Zero, getting fans excited.

For those unaware, Resident Evil 0 was a bit of an odd duck when it came out. Set before the first game, it has Rebecca Chambers explore a whole new area with convicted criminal Billy Coen. As expected, they uncover a conspiracy and fight a ton of zombies before they realize some truths about what’s going on.

Despite having stellar graphics for the time, to the point that the remaster still looks decent, Zero was criticized for its odd gameplay. Although it maintained the tank controls fans either love or hate, the game also forced players to switch between Rebecca and Billy to solve puzzles or take part in unique boss fights. While the approach was novel, most fans didn’t like the gameplay, as it often halted any major momentum taking place in the story.

Because this is a remake, Capcom has a rare chance to make Resident Evil 0 a proper good game. Obviously, they can keep the acclaimed third-person camera and shooting from the fourth game. But the devs can also completely remove the switching mechanic or make it more streamline so it doesn’t disrupt gameplay. They can also add co-op, making it similar to the Revelations sub series.

Curious fans can buy the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0 right now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. For more Capcom news, check out what we wrote up about Resident Evil 2 remake’s failure on iPhone. Players can also read about the unfortunate cancelation of Earthblade.
