Should I Wait For Apple Watch Series 8? Here's What We Think

Should I wait for the Apple Watch Series 8? If you're looking to grab your first Apple watch or upgrade your current model you've likely been asking yourself this very question.

2022 is already set to be an exciting year for Apple, with the iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air 5 rumoured to be heading our way later this year, plus don't forget about the upcoming MacBook Air 2022 and rumoured MacBook Pro 2022 also.

And we're hoping to see the announcement of the next in the Apple Watch line, the Series 8, however, is the upcoming smartwatch worth waiting for?

Here's what we think based on what we know so far.

How Long Could The Wait For The Apple Watch Series 8 Be?

Apple has announced a new version of the Apple Watch every year since its initial inception and so with the release of the Series 7 last October, we could see the launch of a Series 8 later this year.

While we currently do not have an official release date, based on previous release patterns we think that it could likely arrive in September or October 2022.

With the Apple Watch Series 8 being a while off releasing, rumours and leaks for any upcoming specs and features are a little thin on the ground.

Of course, at the current time, this is just speculation and we'll be sure to update you with the official release date once it has been announced.

With the Apple Watch Series 8 likely a long way off, it is worth considering whether the Apple Watch Series 7 is still worth investing in...

Is The Apple Watch Series 7 Worth Buying Now?

The Apple Watch Series 7 is still relatively new, having released only a few months ago, back in October 2021.

Price

The Series 7 Apple Watch has a starting price of £349 / $399 with premiums for the larger 45mm model, cellular capabilities and various strap configurations.

While the official pricing is yet to be announced for the Series 8, we are expecting it to come in at around the same.

But what exactly are you getting for your money if you decide to go ahead with the Series 7?

Specs

The Apple Watch Series 7 features over 50% more screen area than the Series 3 and is larger than the Series 6 and SE models.

It also claims to be Apple's most durable smartwatch ever built, with improved crack resistance, IPX6 dust resistance and even WR50 water resistance.

For the display, the Series 7 comes with an OLED panel type, which allows for greater contrast and provides up to 1,000 nits of brightness, which should mean the watch is clearly visible even in well-lit environments.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is also equipped with USB-C fast charging, allowing you to go from 0% to 80% battery life in a mere 45 minutes of charging.

In terms of storage, you're getting 32GB, which should be more than enough to store all your files such as music and photos.

When it comes to power, this smartwatch uses the Apple S7 chipset which should mean that this fast runs smoothly and quickly.

Features

Much like many of the best smartwatches, the Apple Watch Series 7 features a wide variety of sensors.

These include a Blood Oxygen Sensor, Electrical Heart Sensor, an Accelerometer, Gyroscope, ambient light sensor and much more.

The watch even includes built-in speakers and a microphone allowing you to communicate with other Apple Watch users via 'Walkie-Talkie mode' or even to dictate text messages.

You're also getting a range of health apps such as Dream machine, which not only keeps track of your sleep but also helps you set up a regular schedule and sleep goals.

The Apple Watch Series 7 also allows you to track your workouts, whether it be running, swimming, cycling or other various activities.

Of course, if you get the GPS + cellular model you can utilise features such as Apple Pay to help you make payments easily when on the go.

Another one of the main draws of the Apple Watch Series 7 is the large customisation options, with various colours and straps available for you to add your own personal touch.

Should I Wait For The Apple Watch Series 8?

When it comes down to deciding whether or not you should wait for the Apple Watch Series 8, ultimately the decision is yours.

However, if you want our two cents, we'd say you're better off grabbing yourself the Series 7 at this moment in time.

Similarly to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, the Apple Watch Series 8 is likely still several months away from releasing and so you could be waiting quite a while.

Plus, the Apple Watch Series 7 was only released a few months ago and offers some excellent specs and features that we think make it a worthwhile investment.

The Series 7 features the largest screen ever on an Apple watch and boasts the most durable design to date.

And you're getting a wide range of enticing features such as health and fitness sensors as well as practical utilities such as Apple Pay and much more.

If you're looking for a more affordable option, you can always check out the Apple Watch SE which includes many of the same features included in the Series 7.

And if you're not an iPhone user, there are also a range of other smartwatches available such as the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Fitbit Versa 3.
