Six Days In Fallujah, the previously cancelled military shooter, is making a comeback.
The title is in development by Victura and Highwire Games, and it's coming in 2021. Focused on the Second Battle for Fallujah in 2004, the game will pit Western forces against Al Qaeda.
"Working in partnership with frontline Marines and Soldiers who fought in the Battle for Fallujah, Victura and Highwire have spent more than three years building unique technologies and game mechanics that bring players closer to the uncertainty and tactics of modern combat than other video games have explored", a press release reads.

What Is Six Days In Fallujah?
A realistic, harrowing first-person shooter, Six Days In Fallujah was originally cancelled in 2009 due to controversies surrounding its subject matter.
According to a press release, "over 100 Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians who were present during the Second Battle for Fallujah have shared their personal stories, photographs, and video recordings with the development team."
"The game gives these stories voice through gameplay and first-person accounts captured in original documentary interview footage. Six Days in Fallujah aims to be the most authentic military shooter to date and to tell these military and civilian stories with the integrity they deserve."

Devs Backtrack On Apolitical Stance - March 9
In a new statement on Twitter, devs Victura addressed the criticism of their previous stance on the game's attempt to remain apolitical.
“We understand the events recreated in Six Days in Fallujah are inseparable from politics,” it reads.
“The stories in Six Days in Fallujah are told through gameplay and documentary footage featuring service members and civilians with diverse experiences and opinions about the Iraq War. So far, 26 Iraqi civilians and dozens of service members have shared the most difficult moments of their lives with us, so we can share them with you, in their words.”
“The documentary segments discuss many tough topics, including the events and political decisions that led to the Fallujah battles as well as their aftermath"
“While we do not allow players to use white phosphorous as a weapon during gameplay, its use is described during the documentary segments."
“During gameplay players will participate in stories that are given context through the documentary segments. Each mission challenges players to solve real military and civilian scenarios from the battle interactively, offering a perspective into urban warfare not possible through any other media."
“We believe the stories of this generation’s sacrifices deserve to be told by the Marines, Soldiers and civilians who were there"
“We trust you will find the game — like the events it recreates — to be complex.”
Game Aiming To Be Apolitical - February 16
Despite being set during a real-world conflict and based around a specific battle, Victura boss Peter Tamte is adamant that the game isn't intended as a political commentary.
“It’s about the experiences of that individual that is now there because of political decisions. And we do want to show how choices that are made by policymakers affect the choices that [a Marine] needs to make on the battlefield," he told Polygon.
"Just as that [Marine] cannot second-guess the choices by the policymakers, we’re not trying to make a political commentary about whether or not the war itself was a good or a bad idea.”
Release Date
The game is expected to launch in 2021, although no month was given.
Developers
Original developer Atomic Games' Peter Tamte is now the CEO of Victura, the game's publisher.
As for Highwire Games, the studio is a small team of industry veterans, with developers who have worked on the likes of Halo and Destiny – including lead designer and audio director on those projects, Jaime Griesemer and Marty O'Donnell.
Platforms
Six Days In Fallujah will come to PC and console, but we don't yet know which consoles are being targeted.
