When they’re not going on heroic quests, battling the ebony warrior or teaming up with the Blades to defeat Alduin, Skyrim’s Dragonborn seemingly also has time to get caught up in a litany of weird and wacky scenarios.
From magically motivated chases with chickens to massacring an entire village using only the power of dabbing or transforming into a magical Michael Jordan, the list is almost endless.
Unfortunately, it just got a little longer, as a new mod offers Skyrim’s hero the chance to battle some Falmer foes who’ve been bestowed with the ability to impersonate an infamous Lord of the Rings character, making for some rather surreal dungeon delving.
Is this the Elder Scrolls/Lord of the Rings collaboration you’ve been waiting for?
The mod in question is called ‘Falmers are Gollum’ and is the work of modder ArchCabbage, whose previous work consists of a high-pitched variation of Andokool12’s infamous ‘Swearing Mudcrabs’ mod.
This time they’ve gone a step further, roping in a voice actor to lend their finest impression of everyone’s favourite ring-obsessed character to the former snow elves in place of their regular grunts and growls, as you can see in the video below.
As to why they’ve done so, ArchCabbage explains: “We love Gollum from Lord Of The Rings and I've always been fascinated by the way Falmer walk and act. I hear Gollum's voice every time I see a Falmer walking around.”
A lot of their fellow Skyrim players seem to share a similar fascination, having posted comments on the mod commending ArchCabbage for their work.
However, a few seem to be craving a version of the mod that’s a little more lore-friendly from an Elder Scrolls perspective, with one asking if it would be possible to remove the references to hobbits and worshipping the one ring from the dialogue, as neither quite fit with the established universe of the game.
Regardless of whether this is a concern you share, it’s probably worth briefly adding the mod to your load order for a quick laugh if things are getting stale and also making sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the wacky world of Skyrim modding.
