Modders have put a lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the eleven years since it was first released into the world.
A lot of these efforts have focused on making the game more immersive, making additions ranging from dynamically-learning NPCs to destination weddings, as well as re-designing the locations used by some quests, and even giving its animals swimming lessons.
Now, one modder has decided to make going for a stroll along Skyrim’s northern coastline or staring out to sea from the balcony of your Solitude mansion a bit more interesting, by adding a few far-off galleons for you to ogle.
Have you ever thought Skyrim’s coastlines could do with feeling a bit more lively?
The mod in question is called ‘Ships On The Horizon’, and is the work of modder Gervantfromrybia, whose name suggests they might be a Witcher fan. A lot of their previous work has also been focused on realism, helping to make Skyrim’s road signs a bit easier to differentiate, as well as its fast travel carriages.
This time, they’ve decided to cater to Tamriel’s ship-spotters, by adding a few galleons lurking on the horizon near ports like Solitude, Raven Rock and Tel Mithryn.
Though they’re only static as of right now, especially when paired with mods like AssyMcGee’s ‘Solitude Docks’, these vessels can still help give you the illusion that you’re not the only one living a life of adventure or industrious money-making that involves a lot of travelling around to far-flung places.
Gervantfromrybia also seems open to working on having the ships move via a future update, with a couple of other modders having indicated that they might be able to help accomplish this in the mod’s comments section, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
On the other hand, if you’re itching to make Skyrim feel more animated, but prefer to keep your feet on dry land, you could try another recently released mod, Jkrojmal’s ‘JK's Whiterun Outskirts’, which adds a bunch of new farms and other buildings to the area outside of Skyrim’s central city, making it feel much more densely populated.
