The work Insomniac Games did for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nothing short of incredible, as many are already pegging it as a possible GOTY contender. Fans of video game preservation will also be happy to know that the whole game is in the disc, though installing the Day One patch is highly advised.
On Twitter, Insomniac told players that the superhero sequel will be ready for October 20 but also stressed that they should wait for the Day One patch. Insomniac was quick to point out that the game available on disc will be playable from start to finish without the patch, though it does make things smoother.
Additional polish is what the Day One patch will add to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including improvements to the opening section and some accessibility options. Granted, those are pretty basic improvements we expect from a first-day patch but the fact it's playable out of the box is appreciated.
Digital players won’t have to worry about this at all, as the game will come with the patch right away if purchased from the online store. While lacking in some of the sentimental value, digital gaming is pretty convenient and ensures that PS5 owners will get the best version from the start.
It’s good to see Insomniac try their damndest to make us love a game most of us were already going to enjoy. We don’t blame the company, as it’s currently their highest-rated game in years, which is baffling since they’ve had consistently quality game releases.
Now, not everything about the game will be perfect, even after this Day One patch. After all, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has some of the ugliest pigeons we’ve ever seen in a game. You can’t perfect everything, but Photo Mode is going to make those mistakes a lot more prevalent.
