Fans knew that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was going to be a huge hit, but the PS5 exclusive continues to surpass expectations. Right now, this open-world superhero title is the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive ever, which is another major win for both Sony and Insomniac Games.
Insomniac’s Marvel game has reportedly sold 2.5 million copies within 24 hours of its release, showing just how anticipated this installment has been (via IGN). This amazing accomplishment means that Peter and Miles have overthrown God of War Ragnarok as the system’s fastest-selling PS5 exclusive.
“With an epic storyline, two playable super heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans - we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure,” said Eric Lempel, SVP, Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Considering how acclaimed both Spider-Man and Miles Morales were, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being a success was fairly easy to predict. Still, the fact that this game is now the fastest-selling PS5 exclusive is still an impressive feat and the folks at Insomniac should take a bow.
The reviews for this sequel have been high, with Metacritic claiming that this is the best game Insomniac has ever developed. Fans can see what makes the sequel so great in our review, where we gave the superhero sequel a perfect score.
Unfortunately, there are quite a number of issues plaguing the game and they have nothing to do with its quality. For some reason, the folks at Insomniac confused the Puerto Rico flag for Cuba’s, angering a lot of fans. This game also has some of the ugliest in-game pigeons ever seen, though we can’t blame the devs for that and they’re kinda cute.
