19 inches of Venom wasn’t enough; Insomniac Games has teased an upcoming Spider-Man: Venom spin-off for PlayStation 5.
Following the brilliant release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a new Venom game may be coming from Insomniac. Similar to the Miles Morales spin-off after the original game, this new game would focus on the Insomniac universe’s new version of the iconic Symbiote.
Many fans were convinced that a new Spider-Gwen game would release on PlayStation 5 following the massive success of Spider-Verse. However, with Gwen Stacy being nonexistent in the Insomniac Spider-Man universe, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.
In an interview with Insider, Spider-Man 2 senior narrative director Jon Paquette teased the possibility of a Venom spin-off in the future. If the fans want it — which we most definitely do — a Spider-Man: Venom PS5 game could certainly be next on the cards.
“So, here's what we're doing,” Paquette said. “We're focused on 'Spider-Man 2, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna wait to see how the fans react. We're gonna listen to the fans and we're gonna ask ourselves, 'Okay, what do the fans really want?'"
Paquette explained that before a spin-off even enters development, the team needs a well-earned vacation and some rest. Nevertheless, with the quick turnaround on Insomniac projects, a potential spin-off could be only a couple of years away.
Insomniac Games is also working on other games in its Marvel universe, including a Wolverine game for PS5. While the game has yet to have its official gameplay reveal, leaks have stated the game will be incredibly violent, just like fans have been asking for.
Now owned by Sony, Insomniac Games has been praised for its gorgeous and satisfying open-worlds since the release of its Xbox One and PC exclusive Sunset Overdrive. With the power of the PlayStation 5 behind it, the studio is already creating some of the best looking games of the generation.
