If you’re a big Star Wars fan, odds are you’re looking forward to the next entry in Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi series arriving later this month.
While the sequel to 2019’s Fallen Order will no doubt feature plenty of new mysteries and fresh mechanics, part of its appeal is grounded in the fact it’ll also contain a bunch of recognisable locations and characters from movies, shows and games also set in a galaxy far, far away.
Despite only having appeared in Respawn’s game series so far, protagonist Cal Kestis is already well on his way to garnering cheers every time he appears on screen, with voice actor Cameron Monaghan having recently earned plenty of brownie points on Reddit by openly professing his love of ponchos.
How many ponchos do you plan to collect in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?
Their meme-based mirth forms the subject of a recent thread on the subreddit r/FallenOrder, which was kicked off by a post from user Star_Wars_Dude, who shared a clip of Monaghan taking to the stage during day three of the recent Star Wars Celebration in London and immediately steering the topic of conversation towards Wild West-style cloaks.
Many of their fellow jedi seemed equally pleased that the actor has embraced the memes, with user Met_Kay simply declaring: “What a dude”, while makashiII_93 said: “Who wants a poncho? (I) love people that love what they do, (so I) love Cameron.” and Gradz45 admitted: “I unironically do want some ponchos.”
Others seemed saddened that, despite the actor’s best efforts to force director Stig Asmussen to disclose whether there are going to be ponchos in the new game, no such confirmation was forthcoming, with user ElectricOyster speculating: “I guess Stig didn't want to give anything away, but I don't think it would've been a big deal to tease a poncho cosmetic.”
Similarly, user Stupid_Dummy_Idiot_ suggested: “They should at least have the Bracca poncho (in Survivor) as a callback. The best poncho in (Fallen Order) was the original poncho.”
On the other hand, user M6D_Magnum responded to Monaghan’s antics by saying: “Now I feel bad for always removing the poncho in the first game because I didn't like it. Outlaw outfit all day every day, baby!”
Meanwhile, user mrshel17 summed up both the clip and the entire thread rather succinctly by saying: “The word poncho sounds so strange after hearing it 500 times in a row.”
