The new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is reportedly still on life support at developer Saber Interactive. While the game may never release, there are still developers working on the title.
The KOTOR remake has allegedly been in trouble for the past year. Published by Embracer Group, the remake of BioWare’s seminal roleplaying game has changed developers, had its announcement trailer scrubbed from official channels and more.
According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, the Star Wars: KOTOR remake is still actively being worked on. Despite prior reports claiming the game was officially dead at Saber Interactive, the RPG still has a team of devs creating the title.
Schreier explained that the game may not ever actually release, but developers are working on the game at the time of writing.
“Can't say whether the KOTOR Remake will ever actually *come out*, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they're still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game,” the reporter explained. “Saber took the project from Aspyr last year, as Bloomberg reported then.”
Schreier explained that a recent demo showcase for the Star Wars: KOTOR remake underwhelmed certain parties. Behind the scenes, it seems numerous parties involved with the game — which as Sony or LucasArts — were torn on the project's scope.
“The [KOTOR] demo wasn't egregiously bad or anything like that. The bigger issue was misalignment between all the parties about scope and how much progress they could make within a given timeline,” they explained.
The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced as a PlayStation 5 exclusive when it was revealed. Via our sister site StealthOptional, Sony has since become underwhelmed with the remake’s lack of cinematic flair compared to the studio’s in-house exclusives such as Uncharted or The Last of Us.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was initially expected to release sometime in 2025. However, no prospective release date is in place for the new Star Wars game.
