Starfield’s bizarre asteroid bug has caused a space rock to casually attend someone’s wedding

Most of the hardcore Bethesda fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 couldn’t wait for the chance to blast off into Starfield.

No matter whether you paid for early access or jumped into the game on September 6, odds are if you’ve avoided spending all day downloading mods, you’ve likely already blazed through a lot of missions and moulded your character into a hardened spacer.

You might also have been getting up to all kinds of wacky hijinks as you explore the cosmos, such as re-creating one of Oblivion’s most iconic YouTube clips, swimming through a milky way made of literal milk, or in the case of one player, trying to explain the arrival of an unexpected wedding guest to the in-laws.

Are you hoping to grant an asteroid the chance to be your best man or one of your bridesmaids in Starfield?

As we reported late last week, one of the many amusing little quirks of the Starfield experience that players have stumbled across so far is the ability to accidentally ‘adopt’ a pet asteroid or two. These adorable little space rocks keep getting randomly stuck in orbit of people’s ships and are sticking around for a long time once they’re caught.

So, given their well-documented tenacity when it comes to following around interstellar explorers, it might not surprise you to learn that one of these overgrown pebbles has now managed to crash someone’s wedding.

According to the unlucky suitor in question, Reddit user Ultimastar, the asteroid in question had only been visible in space for most of the 90 hours they claim it’s been following their character, but decided to make an exception in order to attend their nuptials with Andreja.

“It never moved from that spot whilst on the planet,” Ultimastar revealed in a comment on their post. “My ship wasn’t close at all which was even weirder, I was required to run to this location for a little bit, and the rock was just there waiting.”

Given just how integral a part of some players’ Starfield experiences asteroid buddies like this one have become, it’s no surprise that some have either become convinced that they’re a feature, rather than a bug, or are calling on Bethesda to add in an actual space rock companion if it fixes the glitch.

“Space was empty. Space was vast. Space was cold, and joyless. Then Rock came into my life. Never needy. Never complaining. Never judgmental. Just... always there. Rock is my anchor, in an uncaring universe,” user SebastainDerring declared in the thread.

I think we can all relate.
