In most roleplaying games, players earn XP from completing the main story campaign missions. These return large amounts of XP and even bonuses for players to level up progressively along the narrative. But that isn't only the way players can get XP fast in Starfield.

Another method, which is quite common, is grinding side quests. These are usually tasks given by NPCs that don't necessarily affect the main storyline, but can still give additional XP for players.

Also, try completing faction quests as you can get at least 200 XP. These specific missions within your faction will not only grant you XP bonuses but also unravel more of Starfield's lore. Be sure to give some time to doing side quests for those XP bonuses. They'll help you a lot in reaching new levels.

Besides those two main ways of getting XP in Starfield, we've also gathered other methods in the game to further increase the XP you obtain during your playthrough.

Fighting enemies

It's a given in most role-playing games that defeating enemies gives XP. In Starfield, you get 10 XP if you or your companions successfully fight off an enemy. Be careful to pick your battles wisely though, as there may be times some enemies are too much to handle.

Finding new locations

When you travel to a new place, you'll get 20 XP for this. You can start farming XP through this method by starting on a landing point such as cities and then continue exploring areas nearby. Additionally, you can use your scanner to find unknown locations and mark them on the map.

By travelling around a new planet and exploring its locations, you can possibly get up to more than 100 XP. So, be sure that when you get to new locations, you maximise them.

Drink Boba Alien Tea

Boba Alien Tea is an Aid item in Starfield that is consumable by the player. These usually restore health and can be found in various locations or even purchased from merchants. Besides restoring health, drinking the tea will enable an XP boost of 2% for 15 minutes. It isn't much but it can give an additional boost by a bit.

Sleep regularly

While adventuring can seem endless in Starfield, it's also important to rest your character. Sleeping in a bed can also restore your health and even give you the "Well-Rested" perk. Additionally, it can give you a 10% XP boost for 24 in-game hours. This can certainly increase the XP you get.
