It's a standard in many a Bethesda game. You're happily battling against one or two foes, and then all of a sudden, you find yourself overrun and taking hit point after hit point. How to heal in Starfield
Once you've taken enough hits to make you take a step back and require some health, all you need to do to heal in Starfield is open up your inventory and select a Med Kit.
Like with other Bethesda titles, having a dig around your inventory completely halts whatever action you may find yourself in the middle of. So you can quite leisurely hover over the Aid section and select a Med Kit to heal yourself with.

You can also hotkey this action, on both controller and standard mouse and keyboard controls. This means you no longer have to root around your backpack for health, you can have it quite literally at your fingertips.
When do you need to heal in Starfield?
You can make yourself pretty durable as is in Starfield, but there will undoubtedly come a time when you need to buff yourself with some much-needed health. You can probably battle your way through a handful of foes without needing to find health for a short time, but before long, you'll certainly need to know how to increase your survivability.

Your health bar can be found on the bottom right of your screen, and it'll tell you in real time how healthy you're looking. You'll be able to judge this just by fighting, too. As each hit on you lands, a red indicator arrow will show you the direction it came from, so you can keep an eye on your surrounding foes.
But there you have it - that's all you need to know about healing yourself in Starfield. Be sure to check back often, as we'll update this guide once we're hands-on with Starfield, and know even more about how to bolster your defences.
