How to find the Heart of Mars in Starfield
You can pick up the quest in Cydonia, located beneath the Martian surface, designed to sustain a non-hostile Martian environment. Cydonia serves as a major hub for mining and manufacturing, providing accommodation for numerous mine workers, including Laylah Pulaski who is going to play a significant part in this quest. Here are the stepwise processes to extract the Heart of Mars in Starfield:
Interact with Laylah Pulaski
Upon interacting with Laylah, she will share information about a very rare mineral found on Mars, known as the Heart of Mars. She will also caution you about the potential curse associated with this rare item. However, the curious human mind is always drawn to exploration, and this curiosity may compel you to seek out this precious item.
Fast travel to a cave and extract Heart of Mars
If you've made the decision to extract the Heart of Mars, go ahead and ask Laylah for the precise coordinates. This will add a cave to the southernmost part of Mars on your map. Open your Mars map and use fast travel via your spacecraft to reach this location.
After landing safely, follow the blue dot marked on your map. It will guide you to the entrance of the cave. Enter the dark cave with your flashlight on. After searching for a while, you will come across the Heart of Mars, which appears as a titanium deposit.
Extracting the Heart of Mars is similar to extracting other minerals in Starfield. Take out your cutter and begin the extraction process. It is an average-sized, valuable mineral, so add it to your catalogue.
Note: There is a recent bug causing trouble for players when extracting the Heart of Mars, where the item becomes stuck behind the floor, and the cutter appears to be ineffective.
Perhaps we will receive a fix for this issue in the next patch update. For now, you can try the following method to overcome the bug to open the console and type "tcl." This will allow you to walk beneath the surface, enabling you to successfully mine the Heart of Mars despite the bug.
If it still doesn't work, you can attempt reloading the game using a quick save. Ultimately, if none of these methods resolve the issue, your best option may be to wait for the next patch update from Bethesda.
Return to Cydonia
Once you have obtained the item, return it to the City of Cydonia. You can fast travel with your spacecraft to travel back quickly. Look for Laylah once more, who can be found in the mine pit. Inform her about your discovery, and she will be equally surprised and pleased with your find. With this, you have successfully completed the mission.
What to do with Heart of Mars?
To be straightforward, what you choose to do with the Heart of Mars is entirely up to you. Rest assured, your hard work and time have not been in vain. As mentioned earlier, this item is extremely rare and valuable, worth a significant 28,000 credits.
Possessing this item is undoubtedly an exhilarating experience. However, if you're not inclined to keep it, you also have the option to sell the Heart of Mars to a merchant within the Trade Authority for a profitable return.
