Starfield mods will let you stare at Nicolas Cage or Todd Howard when you flick on your flashlight

Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 couldn’t wait for the chance to start digging into Starfield.

After a thank you message from Todd Howard and a couple of heated discourses got fans nice and warmed up for the game to finally arrive, most of those who paid for early access are now many hours into their adventures through space.

While players have been busy hunting down artefacts, making interesting discoveries and building cool spaceships, modders have been hard at work putting together early tweaks and additions for the game. If you often feel like you could do with a friendly face to help guide you through the dark caves found on many planets, the Nexus has you covered.

Fancy staring at a famous face every time darkness descends in Starfield?

Following modder Painlessstone68’s publishing of ‘Uohhhhhh Lamp - Flashlight Retexture,’ which replaces the circle of light generated by your flashlight with a crying emoji, it seems a bit of a trend has begun to take off.

First, GeraldMods, who’s previously added a bunch of extra unmarked locations to Skyrim for players to find, decided to give folks a chance to discover Todd Howard’s visage every time they turn on their torch. On the list of “advantages” their retexture boasts over the default flashlight, they simply wrote “16 times the detail,” and “funny.”

To be fair, they’re not wrong.

If you’d prefer the face of Xbox’s Phil Spencer to adorn your lamp, don’t fret, as modder Maquinaremos, creator of the most eye-catching companion outfit in the galaxy, quickly made that an option, as you can see in the video below.

Meanwhile, one of the latest additions to the club, and possibly the most iconic, is Brandoman’s ‘Nicolas Cage Flashlight Mod', which, you guessed it, adds the beautiful mug of the Renfield, Face/Off, and Dead By Daylight star to your torch.

As you can see in the video below, it’s just as glorious as you’d hope, with Cage’s features filling the centre of the light circle, making him look a bit like a moon or planet, which, I suppose, helps the mod feel a little bit more lore-friendly.

On the other hand, if you’re playing a character committed to stomping out injustice throughout the cosmos, you might want to grab Crypton’s ‘Batman Batsignal for Flashlight’, which emblazons your light with the logo of Gotham’s Caped Crusader.

As I was writing this, it’s now also become possible to add Ryan Gosling’s sad meme face from Blade Runner 2049 to your light, thanks to modder MozzyFX. So quite frankly, who know where this strange trend will go next.

Regardless of whether you’re looking forward to being able to download a new face for your flashlight every time you go to start a fresh Starfield all-nighter, make sure to follow us for lots of guides to its world and mechanics.
